If you’re keen to grow at Starbucks, we’ll give you all the support you need.  This is why you’ll never see some of our vacancies advertised externally as we’re keen to grow from within.

Career paths for the stores are more structured (as you’ll see below), but we’re equally committed to our Support Centre partners. Here we’re looking to encourage you in whichever direction you wish to take – which could mean you start in Finance and find you have a flair for Marketing and eventually end up there. Or it could mean that you stay in IT, but we support you in gaining professional relevant qualifications that ultimately help you, and us, to grow.

If you’ve got the talent and the drive to achieve great things, we’ll help you fulfil your ambitions.

From Barista to Store Manager

It may not be everyone’s thing to climb the career ladder within Starbucks (which suits us – we treasure our career Baristas!). But for those that do, we’ll actively support you in your ambition, whether you want to become a Shift Supervisor or Store Manager or beyond.

Let’s be clear from the start though: we want you to develop at a pace that’s right for you.  This means we’ll expect you to speak out and let us know you’re ready to talk about progressing to the next stage.

Essentially the career path from Barista to Store Manager goes something like this. From Barista to Barista trainer; from there to a Shift Supervisor and from there to a Retail Manager in Training.

Along the way, you’ll complete on the job training, learning modules, workshops and the odd interview, through which you’ll be continually, coached and mentored – to help you reach your goals. Simple.

From Store Manager to District Manager

Now you’ve got the hang of how we do things, you’re starting to take control of your career development.

There are a couple of steps between a Store Manager and District Manager. First you need to be the best Store Manager you can, which means you’ll take on additional responsibilities and roles that will develop the skills you need to be a District Manager.

Once you’ve excelled in every area of store management – you’ll be ready to join the Future Leaders programme. This programme is made up of on-the-job development, project work, coaching / mentoring, workshops, and journaling experiences. You’ll be fully supported by your District Manager and a member of the learning team.  Once done, you’ll be ready to tackle the District Management Training Programme.
